Reflection

It's a quiet night here in AZ. Boyfriend is downstairs, doing whatever. Dogs are in their crates, pouting. There was an unfortunate incident with the bathroom trash can that resulted in Atticus getting sent to bed early. Spike is pouting because he missed out on the fun. So I'm sitting here with my foot elevated (ant bite again) and reflecting. On flannel and indifference.

Let me back up. I've been renting My So-Called Life from Netflix to show Boyfriend how real and well-developed the hit show was. So what if it was only on for one season. So what if they all look like lumberjacks. It's just the best show ever. Okay, not really. But I really identified with it.

I tried to explain how much flannel was worn during this period. I offered commentary as the episodes played; explaining the fashion (he didn't care), the sentences that faded off and were never finished (still didn't care), analyzing the decor (wallpaper, paint, flowered curtains, starving artist painting, and bead board - all in ONE BATHROOM), and the use of the word "like".

Even on my best day I don't think I could cram in that many likes. We considered making it a drinking game but realized that a) I don't drink and b) The word is used so many times it would take a mere minute to hit the floor.

Now I realize that this has been completely random, but that's okay. I realize that no one cares. That's okay, too. You see, teenagers in the nineties wrote the book on random. Plus, it was cool not to care.

Like, whatever.

Bicycle! Bicycle! Bicycle Bicycle Bicycle Bicycle...Race!

Jeremiah got me into biking about two years ago. I bought a cruiser and we ride around the trails near the house. Here's our regular route.

It flooded over the paths (due to rain and warming weather in the high country) and in some spots the water was quite deep. Riding through the water? Most fun ever.

Flooding.
More flooding.
Also, this is where we see the most wildlife. Coyotes, roadrunners, jackrabbits, rabbits, doodle-y doo, etc.
I took this picture and got a flat almost immediately afterwards. It actually popped. Pfooof!

Flowers

Just an update on our house, post-Scout:
I'm sitting here typing this and even as I type I still think I see Scout out of the corner of my eye...lingering on the stairs, readying herself to hop on the table to eat, or even trotting over to see what's up. I miss her every day. Would she want me to be sad? No, she usually sat with me in bed when I was upset or sick, but she was such a stinker she would definitely want attention and not to be forgotten. For now she is on the mantel and we are going to be doing some things in honor of her in the yard. A nice tree or shrub, perhaps. By the way, the picture slide show isn't working on Firefox but works if played on Internet Explorer or Safari.

My spirits were uplifted when Jeremiah came home last week and surprised me with some orange lilies. I read someone's comment online on a blog about how each month they get flowers from their husband. Not an expensive bouquet, just something small and simple. Another chickie commented that she and her husband surprise each other each month - he picks up a bouquet of flowers from someplace (like Trader Joe's, which has cute & inexpensive flowers) and she picks up a unique beer for him to try. Interesting. So we may be starting this, I'll let you know. Anyways, here are my flowers. The mantel/fireplace isn't finished yet, so ignore the temporary random candle and blue painter's tape.

I put them in a glass milk jug. I like the simpleness of it and I don't often see actual vases that I like. Here's a close-up:

They have been long- lasting and the buds are now almost all opened. Great way to add a bit of color to the room.

Scout

I needed to do something in memory of Scout while I am waiting on her scrapbook.
