Thank You, Netflix

It isn't too often that I feel the need to express my gratitude to a large company, especially to a company that has raised its prices significantly out of pure greed.

But here goes.

Netflix, I just want to thank you for categorizing the movie "Ghost" in the Thriller category, when it most obviously should be placed in Romance. That way, when Jeremiah asked what movie we were getting, I was able to be like, "Oh, we are getting Ghost. Haven't you seen it?" He had not. "You will LOVE it." I said. "It is the absolute best romantic movie, oops, I mean, the best thriller movie."

And then Jeremiah was like, "Wait a minute..." when we were watching it.

So thank you.

Hugs & Kisses,
Emily

p.s. Dear Friends, two things. One, Jeremiah admitted at the end that it wasn't too bad. I was like, duh. I mean, Whoopi, Demi, and Patrick?! Classic. Two,  As I write this my weird neighbor (who was upset because his yard got wet) is using a leaf blower to clean off his patio. There are no leaves. Or anything. Just the ashes from his cigarettes. At this rate, Jeremiah and I will die of second-hand smoke as he is out there all the time and the wind always blows it into our yard.

p.p.s. Favorite Movie?? I will go first. And probably last. I could watch Grosse Point Blank a trillion times. "You know, I guess it's true what they say. You can never go home again...But I guess you can shop there." Ooh, or you could just put your favorite movie QUOTE.

Old People Redeemed

I was driving to work this morning and Coldplay came on the stereo.

Oh, Friends. Let ME fix YOU.

I saw a documentary several years ago and I cried for about two days after I saw it. Totally a fantastic, heartwarming video. And it redeems the elderly. Puts them back into the place where I had them formally - on a pedestal. AND AND AND it includes some fantastic music - including Coldplay. They will Fix You.

Check it out. But if you don't cry, you might want to check your pulse. Or see if you can go out and buy a heart.

Imagine

In the spirit of the holidays, I wanted to share my NEW favorite Glee moment (keep in mind that I am on season one and if you tell me ANYTHING I will quit you forever). This particular scene is from a practice with the students in the school for the deaf.

Glee, Season 1

Gleeks.

Let me start by saying that I've been wanting to watch Glee on Netflix for awhile now. So I moved the first disc to the top of our queue (much to CLH's dismay). Oh.My.Gosh. I couldn't stop watching, people.

I'm a Gleek.

But here's my favorite part. If you've been in a hole like me you haven't seen the show, here's the clip:

Season 1, episode 4.

I couldn't find one that shows it, but it goes on to show Kurt (who is tiny & gay & not so popular, but completely wonderful) winning the game by kicking the ball (after dancing to Beyonce) into the goal (endzone? what's it called?) with his tough manly man dad watching. Then his dad is screaming "That's my boy! That's my son!" and I start crying.

P.S. I sing this song to Jeremiah regularly, just so everyone knows.

P.P.S. Any other Gleeks out there?

Confused. Lost. Haunted.

First, last night we finished the series "Lost". Which devastates me. It's the same when I finish "Gilmore Girls", "Friends", or finish a book series. I get all depressed as if a friend has died. Plus, I'm all into the mystery and now...

So.Sad.All.Day.

And remember how my house is el hauntito? Well, feeling was back again last night (only upstairs, weird) and then this morning I woke up because I heard a cabinet close in our bathroom. Upon opening my eyes I discovered that it was daylight, which was super weird because daylight does not exist at 4:45 am (not this season, but in the summer, yes, it is light that early). So our alarms? Did not go off. Now, they are our phone alarms, so it wasn't an electrical issue. Both were fully charged, too. We don't have the same phone or even the same service. So it wasn't that. Jeremiah was so cute. He was all, "I wonder why the alarms didn't go off?" and I was all, "because the ghost is pissed that you don't believe in it." Which makes sense, 'cause I'm pissed that he doesn't believe in it.

Then, at work, we have new parking rules. We have increased parent parking - signs and everything. We are NOT to park in parent parking. As teachers, we don't get any designated parking.

Do you know what they told those of us that spoke up?

Wait for it, wait for it...

Get here earlier.

Have a good day, people. Please don't let my depression and angst be contagious.

Movie Update

A year ago, my birthday gift from Michigan was a Wii. Boyfriend and I have spent many hours swearing at each other (all in good fun) as we play the games. Lately I've even been whoopin' him at Mariokart, which is new (I always come in last. And why do they only have 2 female characters? Because, really, boys aren't the only ones who like to play.).

But imagine our excitement when we found out in the spring that our Netflix membership extends to watch-it-nows on the Wii. So much better than hooking up a 'puter to the tv and then having to hook up the 'puter to an outlet because regardless of which laptop we use, it inevitably dies mid-movie.

So here's what we've been watching.

Whip It - which I totally loved. All about these tough chickies that roller derby. Great female characters, lots of famous people (Eve, Drew Barrymore, Ellen Paige, Marcia Gay Harden, Jimmy Fallon, Juliette Lewis, etc.). I went online today and found out that there are like, six teams here in AZ. I would totally be all about joining except I can barely skate. But can I say? I totally rocked my white skates with blue wheels when I was little. Seriously.

Ghost Town - actually laughed until I cried at two parts. Watch it and tell me if you laugh. Even Jer laughed out loud. It was that funny. What is it about the British where they can sound all fancy and be telling you to go to hell?

Single White Female - yeah, I saw this before (high school). I rented it for free (score!) after I filled my car with gas on the way home from work one night. (What a great deal, Wesco. Not only do you have fantastic doughnuts and popcorn, but free movies with fill-up? I heart you). So anyway, I credit this movie with keeping me sans roommate (except for college. I love me some Sara & Rachel) and for not hitting boyfriend with shoes...I mean, I'm sure that a sparkly flip flop doesn't have the same effect as a stiletto heel, but why chance it, you know?

The Skeleton Key - We liked this movie a lot. It's set outside New Orleans and is about voodoo. It kept us guessing until the end. And even after it was over, Jeremiah said something and I was all, "...oh my gosh!" So if you haven't seen it (I think it came out about five years ago) you should rent it. Me likey.

Yes, Man - Jim Carrey in a not super-annoying role. And Zooey Deschanel (I heart her. She could be swearing up a storm and still sound melodic.). Just a fun story about a guy who decides he needs to start living life. We laughed out loud.

We've also been watching some shows - catching up on My Name is Earl (season 4), Weeds (season 1), Pushing Daisies (season 1), Miami Ink (season 2), and Lost (We are now on the third disk of the last season. If you tell me how the series ends I will hunt you down and go all Single White Female on you. Not all my shoes are flip flops, yo.).

So there you have it. What we've been watching in Casa E & J. Again I ask, does anyone else have anything exciting/fun/scary/touching that they've watched?

P.S. We just watched Ramen Girl, and I was pleasantly surprised that I liked it. I think Jeremiah even liked it.

My New Band

I'm going to start a new music group.

The name?

Rock Satan's Baby.

How cool is that?

Jeremiah will be the drummer, bass player, electric guitar, and acoustic guitar. I will be singing, playing the tambourine, and making sure there is enough cow bell (name the reference). Our focus will be Polish Punk Rock, so expect to hear lots of songs about ginchies, punchkies, babushkas, etc. Expect to see boyfriend wearing eyeliner and skinny ties and looking a bit emo. I shall wear my hair stick straight, plus lots of black clothes, and lots of makeup. I will not, however, wear skinny jeans. I don't think that would be fair for anyone.

But all that aside: We will rock. You will love us.

So I just have to tell you where I came up with the awesome band name. We were watching Rosemary's Baby on Friday night. I often offer up commentary while a movie is playing, which I think makes me even more lovable, but you'd have to speak with Jeremiah to find out his opinion...

Spoiler Alert (on a movie that is older than I am): as we are watching the end, the crazy witch people are encouraging Rosemary (poor chick didn't stand a chance, did she? I would have left when he started making those comments about the haircut.) to embrace her child and the fact that the devil himself chose HER (what an honor, I tell ya') to have his baby. At this point she heads over to the black crib (bassinet? can you tell I don't have kids?) draped in black scarves and it is very dramatic. She heads over there because the other woman that is trying to rock the spawn of Satan is rocking him too quickly. So she does it. She Rocks Satan's Baby.

Band name of the most awesome proportions EVER.

p.s. Please don't tell boyfriend about the eyeliner. Or the skinny ties. Or the fact that he might be wearing the skinny jeans. We haven't really discussed wardrobe yet.

Reflection

It's a quiet night here in AZ. Boyfriend is downstairs, doing whatever. Dogs are in their crates, pouting. There was an unfortunate incident with the bathroom trash can that resulted in Atticus getting sent to bed early. Spike is pouting because he missed out on the fun. So I'm sitting here with my foot elevated (ant bite again) and reflecting. On flannel and indifference.

Let me back up. I've been renting My So-Called Life from Netflix to show Boyfriend how real and well-developed the hit show was. So what if it was only on for one season. So what if they all look like lumberjacks. It's just the best show ever. Okay, not really. But I really identified with it.

I tried to explain how much flannel was worn during this period. I offered commentary as the episodes played; explaining the fashion (he didn't care), the sentences that faded off and were never finished (still didn't care), analyzing the decor (wallpaper, paint, flowered curtains, starving artist painting, and bead board - all in ONE BATHROOM), and the use of the word "like".

Even on my best day I don't think I could cram in that many likes. We considered making it a drinking game but realized that a) I don't drink and b) The word is used so many times it would take a mere minute to hit the floor.

Now I realize that this has been completely random, but that's okay. I realize that no one cares. That's okay, too. You see, teenagers in the nineties wrote the book on random. Plus, it was cool not to care.

Like, whatever.
