The Family That 'Staches Together...

I don't think I have ever posted about Jeremiah's kids. Actually, I know I haven't. It's a long story, and it is not my story to tell. Here is all y'all need to know:

  1. Jeremiah is a good dad. In every way possible, he supports his kids.
  2. Please refer back to #1. You know I don't like odd numbers.
So anyway, the kids were here for Christmas. I, however, was not. I came back just in time to spice things up before they headed back to their other home (out of state).

His kids are now 18 & 14, which shocks the shit right out of me, because I have been with Jeremiah for seven years and have known these two from when they were littles. Like, preteen. Crazy. I feel old, and I imagine Jeremiah feels super extra old. Have I mentioned that he turns the big four zero this year?

On the plus side, when he went to the gym with Hudson (that'd be the son, yo), the guy at the desk asked if they were BROTHERS. That's gotta make an older fella feel good, I'm guessing. I'm also guessing that I will be hearing about that for years...Thanks a lot, gym receptionist, thanks a lot.

There was a request for a family picture while the kids were here, and we were happy to oblige. The original theme was musicians, because Hudson plays guitar and Jeremiah plays drums and guitar and I own a guitar. Plus, I borrowed a cowbell from work and I thought we could jam like the skit on SNL of Blue Oyster Cult. The one where they need more cowbell.

That all changed when we were leaving Old Navy and I came across a pack of stick-on mustaches. His daughter was all, "What are you going to do with those?" And I told her that we were all going to be wearing one and if she was a smart girl, she'd pick her mustache out first while the picking was good. So she did. Smart girl, that Nadia.

We ended up doing both. Musicians first, mustached second.

So here are some pictures. I am so impressed that these two were not only willing to do it, but had fun while we did it. I know that their lives while they are with us are quite different than while they are with their other family, but kudos to them for that willingness and ability to adapt to change. Because everyone should mustache it up every now and then. Although to be honest, I might be all mustached out.

My favorite part of this is Jeremiah rocking the acoustic. I don't think enough acoustics get rocked.

I love everything about this. Nadia's hair flip? Out of this world. Me fake picking my nose? Hilarious. Jeremiah giving me a look like "Get your finger out of your nose" is...well, he gives me that look a lot. And Huds is just enjoying the cowbell.

Dad and kids.

I like this because I am getting a kiss.

And mustaches. Later we had milkshakes. It was a great day.
These are two of the best pictures. Ever.

There are plenty of others, but these are some of my faves. Hope you and your family had a fantastic holiday.

Happy Christmas!

Basically, Jeremiah was in charge of using the timer. Which might be why he looks slightly deer-caught-in-headlights. While it looks chaotic, I should mention that it really wasn't. For me. Mel, even though she looks otherwise, was completely comfy. Atticus hopped up when I called his name. Jeremiah, on the other hand, had to gather his pets after hitting the button on the camera. And Maddie isn't even in some of the pictures because we accidentally locked her in the walk-in closet. Oops.
Maddie & Spike - obviously on patrol. Always.on.patrol.

I do MUCH better with Jeremiah behind the camera. I feel free to be myself. Have some fun. You know.

Emily: Do you know what would make this picture more exciting? Props! How about an antler?

Happy Holidays & Thanks for Reading!

Two Out of Four of Our Pets Wish You Happy Holidays...

Spawn of Satan says, "WTM?" (What the meow?)

Atticus says, "Why do you hate me?"
Oh, wait. No they don't. Sorry about that.

Holiday Update , Part 2.

As I mentioned, our front room this year has been done up right. The beautiful tree is from my parents and is pre-lit. Freaking wonderful. I decided to decorate with gold, silver, bronze, copper, and white. I love it.
The ornaments are clearance from Crate & Barrel, Target, World Market, and Pier One. There are also some on the tree that I've received as gifts.

Love the tree!
I think my favorite thing is being able to see it while I'm coming down the stairs/walking in the hall upstairs. Love.
How about you? Are you a one Christmas tree house? Do you change themes/colors every year?

p.s. Stay tuned, because we have a family picture coming up, as requested.

Preachin' to the Choir

"So the next song we're going to sing is Silent Night...Okay, Sally? Sally? OMG, I hate it when this happens. She's such a drama queen."

***In reality, this little choir has been perched atop the piano at my grandma's every Christmas for my entire life. I love them, but apparently they are starting to age, as all good things do.

Cheery & Bright

We I decorated the tree last weekend. To be fair (because once in awhile everyone should try something different), he did put the tree up and string the lights. But I put up the ornaments and EVERYONE knows that is the most important part.

Right?

Let me explain while you pretend to care about our new holiday tradition. When I moved here, I had zero Christmas things. Zilch. I was sadder than someone who makes it to the final round of The Price Is Right and then loses because they overbid by like, two dollars. So sad. All day.

So I went out and bought a tree. And color-themed ornaments. Blue, white, and silver. So pretty. If I couldn't have my old ornaments full of memories, then I would buy pretty new ones.

Then I got to CA., where I would be spending Christmas with the Jer-to-the-miah. The dude had NO tree. He had no ornaments. So there was a discussion and voila! A tree and ornaments, at my disposal. So for now, we have TWO trees. Dos. Deux. Like that, y'all.

This post documents the tree that lived its first Christmas in Sacramento.
New ornaments bought at 75% off after last Christmas.

More new ones, making their debut. By the way, I hope that at some point I will be able to integrate my old family ornaments with the new ones.
Tree! It looks prettier at night...and from a regular view.
One of my favorites...
Some more new ones.

Glitter balls. Heeeheeee.
So there is tree number one.

Anyone else have a tree that they want to share? Any color themes you love?

Holiday Leftovers

World Market and Pier 1 had some mondo sales and as a frugal shopper, I found this super appealing. Plus, I love ornaments. So here goes. The one above was actually a present from le boyfriend. 'Cause I love dogs, you know?
Also a present. 'Cause I love trees and outdoorsy stuff, you know?
The one above is full of sparkly goodness and it is an after-holiday find. If I had the patience, I think I could recreate it. It just takes sequins and tiny beads. In fact, have I done this? I'm having ornament deja vu.
I thought both of these could be recreated as well. Just get some ribbon and foam balls.
There you have it. Holiday goodies 75% off.

O' Christmas Tree

These two shots are of the tree in the front room. It is decorated with silver, white, and blue ornaments (balls)...heeheheehehee.
The tree in our living room is decorated with bright & cheery ornaments. We went to Target after Christmas and got more ornaments for both trees at 50% off.
The wreath was a gift from Debi, our realtor, and was shipped fresh from Washington. It smells pine-y and wonderful.
